Thursday

Thursday (July 31st) bright and early, my body clock was still on Chicago time. I wanted to get up about 7am - Vegas time. My body said nope, you're getting up at 5:30am - Vegas time; this is how the whole week went. My body's wakeup call was stuck on Chicago time. What's funny is that the TV channel TNT in Vegas is set for Chicago time. So, I could watch Supernatural every morning before going downstairs. The only bad thing about my room, was that the refrigerator was actually a freezer. It partially froze everything that I put in it. 3 days in a row I called and asked for it to be fixed; my calls were not answered. So, I mentioned it when I checked out and I got a discount on the room. Any-hoo.

Just an FYI: when I talk about taking a break or there's a break before the next speaker; I'm not referring to; there's a break in the convention schedule. I mean that there is a break in my schedule and the people I really want to see. There are always panels, auctions and Q&A's going on throughout the entire day in both theaters.

We head down to the convetion earlier then we had planned, since we were all up. There's a Starbucks by our bank of elevators, and you can have quite the celebrity spotting there's. Daniel Davis, Star Trek's Moriarty and Niles from the Nanny, was in line at Starbucks.I ran across him several times during the convention. We took our time and headed to the vendors room. We checked an item or two off our freebie list. Then, We headed to the theater to see how our seats lined up with the stage and John De Lancie was due on first.

Our seats were great, we had a good sight line. Adam Malin came out and welcomed everyone and gave a few highlights of what was coming up for the weekend. He also announced that John De Lancie had an emergency and was not going to be able to make it, so that freed up about 30 minutes. I believe they did some videos during his time.

This year was the first year that Creation had a "House Band" on stage throughout the convention. They were "Five Year Mission". You can check them out on their official web site.

David Gerrold, the writer of "Trouble with Tribbles" was scheduled for 11:15, so I went back to the vendors room. You spend a lot of time in the vendors room, when you want to kill time and you also meet a lot of cool people. I got back to my seat just before he started.

Nichelle Nichols was up next, bless her heart, she always looks fabulous. She did a wonderful job speaking. She has been through so much in her life and has so many stories to tell. And she sings like an angel. Her autographs were right after she got done on stage.

The Next Gen Men: Michael, LeVar and Brent, were up at 1:10. I got quite a few pictures of them before they called my ticket number to get Nchelle's autograph. She was signing inside the theater while the boys were on stage. Once the boys realized that Nichelle was there, their panel got derailed for a while. Everyone loves Nichelle. They had her come up on stage. After she came off the stage, Creation moved her to a different room, so she wouldn't be a distraction for the boys. I love the fact that she really takes her time with each person and listens to what they say.

More photos of the terrific trio..

The highlight of my day was coming up at 2:10, KARL URBAN!!!! Yummy!!!! He came on and my camera snapped away. He's got a great smile, he told funny stories, especially on how Chris Pine, the cast and crew pulled a great prank on him. He was plotting and planning on how he will get them back. He did pocket dial someone during his panel, it was funny. I had a long break after his panel, so I went upstairs and grabbed a little bit of something to eat and to freshen up, as my photo op with Karl was coming up. Yes, I was a bit nervous, did I mention that he is quite yummy!!!

More photos of the Aussie from down under, Karl Urban!!.

While waiting for the photo ops to begin, you always talk with the people around you and find out where they're from or other little tidbits. Once the op begins, the line goes really fast. It is an opportunity to get to see the artist up close for a few minutes. When it was my turn, I asked for the "huggie" pose. He turns in and we hug, he didn't get it. So it looks like I'm squeezing the stuffing out of him, but I really wasn't. It was great. I'll do a photo op with him everytime he is at the convention. I went back into the main theater to hear the rest of David Warner, then just hung around till the Harlan Ellison's panel.

Gotta love Harlan, he tells it to you straight. You may not like everything he has to say, but it's his truth. Harlan is the author of "The City on the Edge of Forever".

Next up were the Next Gen Women: Marina, Gates & Denise. Well Harlan was running over his time, so Marina came up on stage and told him it was time for him to get off the stage, cause he was running into their panel time. This is Marina, I don't know if she knows him or not, but Harlan and Adam wrapped it up and got off the stage. Marina is know for panel bombing as she did panel bomb the Next Gen Boys as well.

The ladies came on stage and while they were talking Terry Farrell panel bombed their panel. Her and Marina are really great friends. It's always nice to see the different celebs interact with each other.

More photos of the lovely ladies.

The last guest for the day is Garrett Wang. Garrett is quite the spokes person and entertainer. He hardly ever stands still on stage, so when he stops, you shoot. I ve found that when you just cannot get the color to mix well, it's best to turn it black and white.

Deb and Rob headed to 7pm Bingo and I was going to go to my room to change for dinner in the Voodoo Lounge. But, first I went to the photo room to pick up my picture with Karl, that was taken earlier. Chris was still there and I wanted to get a picture of Chris and I together. Have I mentioned how sweet he is.

Then went upstairs and got ready for the Voodoo Lounge Dinner. I got in line about 7:35pm. Then Chuck found me and we stood together. There was a young lady and her father in line behind us. He was pretty well toasted and also their frst con. I was running into a lot of people that this was their first con. The line started to move about 8pm. Chuck and I got upstairs; got our food and then went on the hunt for a place to sit on the inside. We lucked out and found a table in the corner that not only had room for Chuck and I, but it also had room for Deb and Rob. They were on their way up; thank goodness for texting. Chuck and I went to the bar to get drinks. We both ordered Jack and Coke, it's our favorite.

After we got done eating, Chuck and I headed back to the bar for our 2nd free drink and then went upstairs to listen to the Enterprise Blues Band (EBB). EBB consisted of Casey Biggs, Vaughn Armstrong and Steve Rankin. They are actors and musicians. We listened to them for a little bit and then headed out to the terrace. Vegas is so beautiful at night. We watched the Zipline, took pictures of the skyline and talked. There was a great breeze this night, so it wasn't too warm. After a while we went back in to watch EBB again. The dessert table was also up; so we grabbed a couple of cookies and stood and listened to the band. I got fairly good photos as it was really dark in there. It was getting to be about 11pm and I had an early call the next morning, so I said good night to Chuck and went to my room and dropped in bed.

EBB and the Lights of Vegas.
